Day 1: Discover The City's Bustling Modern Side
Shanghai is renowned for its outstanding modern cityscape; therefore, our first day will be dedicated to exploring the city's most vibrant and bustling spots. The best way to start your day is by taking a morning stroll along the iconic Bund, which is located at the Huangpu River's west bank; there you will be mesmerized by the breathtaking view of the city's towering skyscrapers and historical buildings.
Next, head to Lujiazui, the Financial and Trade Zone located in Pudong New Area that houses Shanghai's highest skyscrapers. There you will find multiple shopping centers like Super Brand Mall and IFC, where you can indulge in some high-end shopping. For a more adventurous experience, visit the Shanghai Tower or World Financial Center's observatory decks to get a panoramic view of the city.
Afterward, head to the bustling pedestrian street of Nanjing Road, where you can walk around hundreds of specialty shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The street is Shanghai's most famous shopping district and is a paradise for shopaholics looking for luxury fashion items and high-tech gadgets.
Finally, end your day by dining at one of the city's most famous restaurants, located on the top floors of one of the skyscrapers. Among the most popular options are the Char Bar & Grill, which provides a 180-degree view of the city, and the Jin Mao Tower's Grand Hyatt's rooftop Cloud 9 bar, both located in Pudong.
Day 2: Immerse Yourself In Historical And Cultural Sites
On your second day, immerse yourself in Shanghai's rich history and culture. Start by exploring the Old French Concession area. This district represents the French influence in Shanghai and is home to multiple historical sites, galleries, cafes, and bars. The area is famous for its colonial architecture, picturesque lanes, and charming tree-lined streets.
Afterward, head to Yuyuan Garden, located in the heart of Shanghai's ancient town. The Garden is a classical landscape garden with an area of 20,000 square meters, with over 400 years of history. Yuyuan Garden boasts its exquisite pavilions, unique rockeries, tingling streams, and ancient buildings, making it a must-visit spot from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Next, walk down to the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel, a short underground rail line that connects the Bund Area with the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Pudong. It's a unique experience that resembles a sci-fi movie set. The Tunnel features bright neon lights, sound effects, and occasional subaquatic motifs that immerse visitors in a surreal journey.
Finally, head to the famous Jade Buddha Temple, one of the most popular Buddhist temples in Shanghai. The Temple is home to two Jade Buddha statues brought from Burma in the 19th century, making it a significant attraction; in addition to its breathtaking architecture, jade carvings, and intricate decorations.
With these two-day itineraries, you can experience the perfect blend of modern development and ancient heritage, making you feel that you've seen it all in Shanghai.
